Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up, city tour & transfer to Nyungwe Forest National park
After arriving at Kigali International Airport, meet your driver guide from our company and go for a brief city tour. Drive south westwards headed to Nyungwe Forest National park. Have a stopover at Murambi genocide memorial site and Butare National museum. Dinner and overnight at a safari lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & canopy walk
In the early morning, have breakfast and transfer to Uwinka Information Centre for briefing and registration. At 8:00 am, hike into the jungle to meet the endangered chimpanzees either in the main Nyungwe forest or Cyamudongo forest.
You will spend an hour with the chimpanzees, learn their behaviors and enjoy this encounter. In the afternoon, go for an exceptional canopy walk for specular views of the forest from above. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National park
Wakeup on a cup of coffee, check out of the lodge and drive to Volcanoes National park in north western Rwanda. Overnight stay at your lodge of preference.
Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking
Today is for trekking the endangered mountain gorillas! Early in the morning, have breakfast and drive to Kinigi for a pre-gorilla trekking briefing. While there, you will be put in a group of eight and allocated a gorilla family.
At 8:00 am, start off the trek to meet the endangered gorillas. Spend an hour with the gorillas, take pictures, learn their behaviors and enjoy this magical moment. Volcanoes park is home to 10 habituated gorilla families. In the evening if time allows, go for a community tour in the neighboring village of Ibyiwachu before dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Optional golden monkey / Dian Fossey grave yard – Departure
Have an early morning cup of coffee and drive to Kinigi. The precision is similar to that of mountain gorilla trekking. Choose between golden monkey trekking and Dian Fossey graveyard according to your choice.
However, each experience is unique in its kind and worth doing. In the afternoon, drive back to Kigali for your outbound flight.
