The 10 Days Rwanda safari is a perfect package to explore and enjoy all beauties in the land of a thousand hills. The safari will take you to all national parks in Rwanda for gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, canopy walk and big five game which together make a complete Rwanda safari package. This safari starts and ends in Kigali.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up, city tour & transfer to the hotel
Upon your arrival at Kigali airport, meet our driver guide and go for a city tour in Kigali. Visit different travel sites in Kigali such as Kigali genocide memorial Centre, Kigali convention Centre, Kimironko market and the presidential palace among others. From there, drive to your hotel for relaxation. Overnight at a luxurious hotel in the heart of Kigali.
Day 2: Drive to Akagera National park – Evening game drive
After breakfast, checkout and setoff to drive to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda. Reach in the afternoon, check in, refresh and go for an evening game drive to catchup with wild animals feeding before retiring for night rests. Overnight stay at a lodge in Akagera National park.
Day 3: Game viewing & boat cruise
Wakeup very early and go for morning game drives to catchup with early risers hunting, browsing and grazing in the open savannahs. Expect to see numerous wild animals such as hippos, elephants, Rhinos, Buffalos, Waterbucks, Warthogs, Kobs and Giraffes among others.
Return to the lodge for late breakfast and wait for your hot lunch. In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise at Lake Ihema. The shores of the lake shelter different bird species and wild water animals. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, checkout of the lodge and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park in south western Rwanda. We shall have a stopover at Nyanza museum to learn about Rwanda’s histories and cultures. Dinner and overnight stay at your safari lodge.
Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking & canopy walk
In the early morning, have breakfast, get your packed lunch and drive to Uwinka Information Centre for registration and briefing about the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking. The trek to meet the chimpanzees begins at 8:00 am. Trekking can be done either in the main forest or in Cyamudongo Forest. You will spend an hour with chimpanzees to take pictures and embrace their human-like characters.
In the afternoon, go for a 2 hors canopy walk which offers you great aerial views of the forest, birds, Virunga volcanoes and the neighboring local communities. Dinner and overnight stay at One and Only Nyungwe House/ Gisakura Guest House/ Nyungwe Top View.
Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National park
After breakfast, check out and drive north westwards to Volcanoes National Park home to the endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. The approximate driving time from Nyungwe Forest to Volcanoes National park is 7 hours with several stopovers for photography and scenic viewing.
Day 7: Mountain gorilla trekking
Wakeup very early, have a cup of coffee and with your packed lunch transfer to Kinigi headquarters of Volcanoes National Park. Register with the park and go for a brief introduction to the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. At 8:00am, start off a hike into the jungle to meet the gentle giants.
Trekking time can last for over 7 hours but you are assured of meeting gorillas at the end of the trek, spend an hour with a dedicated gorilla family, observe their social lifestyles, take pictures and enjoy this magical moment. After an hour with gorillas, hike down, pick your trekking certificate and that ends our day gorilla trek. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 8: Golden monkey trekking / Dian Fossey
Today, you have two optional travel activities. You can either choose to trek the endangered golden monkeys for a great primate trekking experience, or alternatively hike to the graveyard of Dian Fossey to commemorate her efforts to save the mountain gorillas which were at the verge of extinction.
Both activities begin at Kinigi Park headquarters preceded by registration and briefing. Dinner and overnight stay at the place of accommodation.
Day 9: Ibyiwachu community village – transfer to Kigali
Rise up early, have breakfast and transfer to Ibyiwachu cultural village to learn Rwanda’s traditions, norms and beliefs. Traditional dances and songs are performed to welcome you into Rwanda.
Travelers are allowed to take part which make them feel as part of the local community. In the afternoon, drive to Kigali. Chill and relax at your hotel.
Day 10: Departure
Have a morning cup of coffee, checkout and drive through Kigali connect to the airport for your return flight.
