Enjoy a spectacular landscape of two African countries – Rwanda and D.R. Congo while taking part in this 4 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking & Kivu Beach Safari.
The tour starts and ends in Kigali and happens in Virunga national park where you will be able to trek magical mountain gorillas, as well as visiting the ever blue beaches of Lake Kivu, a giant lake located on the border of Rwanda and D.R. Congo.
There is a lot you can take part while you visit Lake Kivu and among others include swimming, sunbathing and boat cruise. There is an option of visiting some of the city-based attractions in Kigali Rwanda such as the genocide memorial site in Gisozi, former presidential Palace, Belgian monument, Richard Kandt museum and local craft markets. This will definitely depend on the scheduled flight but this safari will create memorable experience in your lifetime.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Pick up in Kigali and cross to D.R. Congo – Virunga National Park.
Be picked from Kigali city at any point agreed and immediately transfer to Virunga national park, in the eastern D.R. Congo. The driver will help you to clear with immigration at the border and link you to the Virunga national park team waiting on the other side of the border.
Virunga national park is amazing and it boasts home to over 7 habituated gorilla families that are trekked every day. It also inhabits two active volcanic mountains – Mount. Nyamuragira and Mount. Nyiragongo which lastly erupted in May 2021. You will arrive and drive to the booked lodge immediately for refreshments.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience and leisure in the afternoon.
Be served with breakfast and the driver guide will take you for briefing exercise at the park office and this will be a great opportunity where you will be told different guidelines to be followed while in the forest. Guidelines will protect both you and forest residents including not littering in the park, keeping an 8m distance from the apes, keeping the noise as low as possible and much more.
Head into the forest and start your search and this will be equally rewarding as you spot other inhabitants of the forest such as endemic bird species, numerous species of monkeys, baboons, forest mammals and butterflies. Spend an hour while in front of these gorillas and thereafter find your way out of the forest to meet your driver guide, who will drive you back to the lodge for a leisurely evening.
Day 3: Full day relaxation on Lake Kivu Beach.
Spend this great day while discovering the beautiful beaches of Lake Kivu on the Congo side. Engage in different activities like swimming, sun bathing or even a speed boat cruise which lasts for an hour or two. This is a great option to relax after gorilla trekking adventure.
Day 4. Transfer back to Kigali. Fly back home.
Leave Lake Kivu shorelines and drive to Rwanda through Grand barrier border and on arrival, you will have an option to visit some of Kigali’s famed attractions like genocide memorial site in Kigali, museums, monuments, craft markets and more.
This will depend on your scheduled departure flight. You will later be dropped at Kigali airport and this will mark an end to 4 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking & Kivu Beach Safari.
