Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Nyungwe Forest
Upon your landing at Kigali airport, meet our company representative (your driver guide) and drive south westwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Stop at Butare Museum and proceed to the rainforest.
The 6 hours’ drive from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park offers you exceptional views of beautiful sceneries, local communities and Virunga Volcanoes.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & canopy walk
Wakeup early, have a cup of coffee and transfer to Uwinka or Cyamudongo information centers for briefing and registration depending on where you want to trek. Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest can be done in either Cyamudongo Forest or Nyungwe forest.
An hour’s encounter with chimpanzees is a lifetime experience to take pictures and learn the human like behaviors of chimpanzees. In the afternoon, go for a canopy walk for great aerial views of Nyungwe Forest and other attractions in the neighborhood. Canopy walk lasts for 2 hours but it’s an exceptional experience. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Bukavu & community walk
This day you will wake up to a warm breakfast, check put and drive to Rusiizi border. Cross over to Bakavu in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Check into your hotel, refresh and later on go for a community walks to meet local people. Dinner and overnight stay at a lodge in Bukavu city.
Day 4: Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Pac National des Kahuzi-Biega.
This a great day to trek the endangered lowland gorillas! Wakeup early, have breakfast and with your packed lunch drive to Kahuzi Biega Park headquarters fro briefing and registration. You will be put in a group of eight and allocated a gorilla family to visit.
Thereafter, startup the hike to see the endangered gorillas. Trekking time is unpredictable but you are assured of meeting the gentle giants at the end of the trek. On meeting them, spend an hour in their company, take pictures, capture live videos and embrace their humanly characters.
In the evening, you may opt to visit the waterfalls, local communities or just undertake a leisure tour in Bukavu city. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 5: Departure
Have a leisurely breakfast in Bukavu city overlooking the southern tip of Lake Kivu, and thereafter embark on a journey back to Kigali in Rwanda. Catch your departure flight via Kigali international airport.
